Religious Freedom Wins in Landmark Case Against Mark of the Beast

In what can only be celebrated as a big win for religious freedom, a man recently won $600,000 in damages against his employer who tried to force him to take a biometric scan. This report is only noteworthy because America has become increasingly hostile toward religious freedom. The Miami Herald reports,

"Beverly R. Butcher worked for 37 years as a coal miner in West Virginia at a mine owned by Pittsburgh-based Consol Energy. In 2012, Consol installed a biometric hand scanner to track employees’ comings and goings. Butcher, a lifelong evangelical Christian, objected to use of the hand scanner. His reason? He believed that using the hand scanner would leave him branded with the mark of the beast, allowing him to be manipulated by the Antichrist.

Consol did not accommodate Butcher. Instead, the company provided him with its own interpretation of the Scriptures. In a letter to Butcher, Consol explained that because the mark of the beast is associated only with the right hand or the forehead, use of the left hand in the scanner would leave him “markless,” so to speak."

The article goes on to note 2 things that Consol Energy, the company named in the lawsuit did that caused them to lose the case,

"First, at the same time Consol was telling Butcher it couldn’t provide him an accommodation, it was already accommodating two other employees who could not use the hand scanner due to hand injuries. Those employees were allowed to enter their personnel numbers on a keypad attached to the system. Consol’s own witness even testified that the accommodation imposed no additional cost or burden on the company, and allowing Butcher to use the keypad procedure would have been similarly cost-free. Bad move.

Second, Consol made the mistake of claiming that Butcher’s understanding of how the “mark of the beast” worked was wrong, so its refusal to accommodate him was not in conflict with his religious belief. Another mistake. Through his letter to Consol and his testimony at trial, Butcher carefully and clearly laid out his religious objection to use of the scanner system, notwithstanding the fact that it would produce no physical mark.

The court held that there was ample evidence from which a jury could conclude that Butcher sincerely believed “participation in this system”— with or without a tangible mark — “was a showing of allegiance to the Antichrist,” inconsistent with his deepest religious convictions. That is all that is required to establish the requisite conflict between Butcher’s religious beliefs and Consol’s insistence that he use its scanner system." (Miami Herald)

There was a time where religious exemption was the rule not the exception. Nobody 50 years ago would have subjected themselves to such invasive technologies for the sake of a paycheck, but now people everyday are tagged like cattle.

This case sets a legal precedent that other cases can work from, for example TSA body scanners. Just think about how many people have walked through those dreadful scanners horrified by the fact they are taking naked, hi-res, full-body, 3D images of every pore and freckle on their body. Images that are most likely ending up in FBI and NSA biometric databases. Talk about conflicting with your deeply held religious conviction. It eats me up, and I always opt out as a result, but for how much longer will that me an option?

The fact that Mr. Butcher won a case against the specific use of a biometrics scanners opens a Pandora's box of litigation. Face scanning software on Facebook and other social media sites, how about police CCTV cameras that are starting to integrate biometric technology, DMV biometric photos, that are being collected for biometric purposes.

Last year, leftist organizations wrote a letter condemning the FBI for maintaining a collection of millions of biometric records,

"A broad coalition of 45 signatories, including civil liberties, racial justice, human rights, and privacy organizations, published a letter Tuesday strongly condemning a proposal by the FBI to exempt its massive biometric database from certain provisions of the Privacy Act. Known as the Next Generation Identification system, or NGI, the FBI database houses the world’s largest collection of fingerprints, DNA profiles, palm prints, face images, and other biometric identifiers. The letter, signed by groups such as La Raza, Color of Change, Amnesty International, National LGBTQ Task Force, as well as the companies Uber and Lyft, criticized the agency’s May 5 proposal on the grounds that the “system uses some of the most advanced surveillance technologies known to humankind, including facial recognition, iris scans, and fingerprint recognition. "

First off, why does it take leftist organizations like the LGBTQ Task Force protesting this database to make national news on the subject of biometrics and Beast-Tech type technologies? Where are the pastors? Where are the Christians on this issue? Christians should be the loudest voices protesting this trend towards invasive biometric tracking simply because it screams Mark of the Beast. What the Mark exactly is, we may never know until it is too late and already upon us. What is clear though is the Bible absolutely forbids the taking of this Mark. It is directly associated with the curse of eternal torment. Revelation paints a bleak picture of the final destination of anyone that gets mixed up with the Mark of Beast and the antichrist system of worship.

"And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. " Revelation.

Conclusion

Is not all of this biometric data collection potentially a religious exemption for every Bible believing Christian in America? Where's the class action lawsuits, sign this Christian up, right?! I am deeply convicted simply loging into my computer and realizing how tracked and traced my browsing habits are, much less clandestine camera networks that literally track you simply to predict your behavior for policing purposes.
