If you are like me, you have heard the words God Bless America many times. It seems that Americans regardless of their status, apparently want God's blessings on this nation. I do not doubt the sincerity of the desire for His blessings. But how realistic is it to expect God to bless America? After all has not America virtually banned God, His laws, and His Word from almost all of its institutions, even from many of its churches? Worship of false gods, murder, lying, stealing and every other sin are at an all time high in America, and repentance at this time seems not to be in the heart of most Americans, even those who call on the name of the Lord.
My view is that it would be unjust for a loving God to bless America. Why? If you study God's Word, you learn that His blessings of individuals and nations are a reward of obedience to a loving God. Who could honestly say that America is obedient to God? Objective evidence leads me to believe that God has withdrawn almost all of His protection of America. Trouble is in the air in America and many have lost confidance in our institutions, even in the Church of Jesus Christ. Perhaps many Americans are a victim of one of satan's tricks, that is, believing in man-created institutions.
Study the history of Israel and you learn quickly how God allowed the enemies of even His own people to conquer them. Is there something for Americans to learn from what happened to Israel? I think so. Many Americans will cry out to God only when their condition is so bad that only God can help them. They will realize that all human institutions, including government, are for the most part, corrupt. As George Orwell stated "the boot of tyranny" will be fully on people's necks.
Will God hear and respond to our cries? I don't know. We are told in Holy Scripture that He is merciful, but that His mercy is not unconditional and will not last forever. He knows if a nation is going to repent. So at some point He will decide to withdraw virtually all of His protection. Has America undergone the loss of all of God's protection at this time? Not totally. It will happen at some point in the future unless America undergoes biblicial repentence and revival.
Christians will know revival has begin when thousands of small prayer groups form almost spontaniously to acknowledge sins and pray for revival. Soon pastors will respond and there will be repentance and prayer for revival offered at churches and in other institutions. Soon this will spread to more of America. Pray that this will happen soon. Start your own prayer group. Remember, spiritual history not only begins by God's actions, but also by people allowing the spirit of God to act in them. Be one of those people.
